Tom Hanks Face huge backlash from MAGA supporters over Offensive Trump voter skit

Tom Hanks Faces Backlash Over SNL Skit Portraying Trump Supporter
Tom Hanks has found himself at the center of controversy following his portrayal of a Trump supporter in Saturday Night Live’s 50th-anniversary special. The skit, a revisit of the 2016 Black Jeopardy! segment, sparked outrage among conservative viewers, who accused Hanks and SNL of mocking Trump voters with outdated stereotypes.

The Controversial Skit
In the sketch, Hanks reprised his role as Doug, a working-class Trump voter clad in an American Eagle T-shirt and a red Make America Great Again hat. Just like in the original segment, Doug surprises the host, Darnell Hayes (played by Kenan Thompson), by answering all the trivia questions correctly—despite initial assumptions that he wouldn’t connect with Black culture.

However, the tension peaked when Hayes extended his hand for a handshake. Doug hesitated before reluctantly shaking back, then awkwardly quipped, “Don’t like that, whoa, whoa, whoa,” before suggesting, “Maybe I’ll start a show for you to come on, and we’ll call it ‘White Jeopardy.’”

What was intended as satire quickly ignited a firestorm of backlash.

Conservative Backlash and Accusations of Elitism
Many conservative viewers took to social media to denounce the skit, calling it tone-deaf and divisive. Critics accused SNL of recycling tired tropes rather than acknowledging Trump’s growing support among minority voters.

Political commentator Benny Johnson slammed the segment, stating, “Donald Trump has never been more popular with Americans and just won a landslide election. They still haven’t learned.”

Right-wing pundit Mario Nawfal echoed the frustration, calling the skit “tone-deaf” and arguing that Hollywood’s portrayal of Trump voters as racist caricatures was outdated.

Former Robert F. Kennedy Jr. aide Link Lauren also weighed in, condemning SNL as elitist and disconnected from mainstream America. “Trump won the popular vote. It’s disgusting to use the cliché that MAGA is racist. Saturday Night Live is nothing more than a stale, unfunny show for snobbish liberal elites. Rest in peace, SNL!”

Social media erupted with criticism, with many accusing Hanks of tarnishing his image as “America’s Dad” by participating in what they saw as divisive political commentary. Others blasted SNL for failing to evolve beyond 2016 humor, arguing that the show had lost touch with the current political climate.

Debate Over the Role of Satire in a Polarized America
Neither Hanks nor SNL have responded to the criticism, but the controversy has reignited debates over the role of political satire in an increasingly divided nation. Supporters argue that comedy should challenge political figures and movements, while detractors see it as further evidence of Hollywood’s disconnect from millions of Americans who support Trump.

One thing is clear: SNL’s attempt to revisit past political humor has only deepened the cultural divide—this time with Tom Hanks caught in the crossfire.
